How Rail Cargo uses the Satelon system
Trains Under Supervision
A container train can carry up to 40 containers at once. Rail Cargo monitors both the train and individual containers — they always know when a set will arrive and exactly which shipments it is carrying. For this purpose, they use special GPS locators attached magnetically to the surface of the rail car. A single locator lasts up to 8 months in operation, withstands any weather conditions, and works with complete reliability.
Tractors Under Supervision
In the final leg of the journey, containers are transferred from the train to road tractors. Tractors are monitored too — their location and time spent at the depot are tracked continuously. The Satelon system evaluates when a tractor has arrived in the depot area and uses this data to sequence vehicles for loading. Since the tractors are owned by contractors, portable GPS devices are used instead of built-in locators.
